Day 021 - Recovering in Paradise

Back tracking a little to when we first got back from our kayaking trip, here are some details we didn’t mention earlier…

After  our first shower in days we set up camp in Bear Country!  We were so tired from our 3 days camping and kayaking that we went to bed pretty early.  Not bothering to check what the weather would be like, it didn’t enter our mind that we might get rain.  And that’s exactly what happened.  In the middle of the night we started hearing drops of rain on our tiny tent.  It got louder and louder and made it impossible to sleep through the noise.  It felt like massive pop corns were popping all around our heads.  The stream that was not far from our tent soon became a torent.  When we started to see water drip into the tent we decided to to pack up and get into the car.

Waking up with a sore back and stiff neck the next morning made us pretty miserable.  We happen to bump into Claude after breakfast and she offered us a “real” warm shower, not one we have to keep our hand pressed on the button to have the water on.  I was re-born!

Within minutes of driving back to Campbell River from Telegraph Cove, we almost DIED!!!  If it wasn’t for the intelligence of a beautiful deer and Marc’s good sight and quick reflexes, we would have hit that poor deer and it would have gone straight through our wind screen.  Hitting a deer at 100km/hour is a recipe for disaster!

After the crap night we had the night before, we decided we wanted a bed and roof over our head that night.  Marc booked us a room at a beautiful cottage called Discover Island Lodge, on Quadra Island.  This place was in the middle of nowhere.  Having to catch a ferry across and drive on winding and gravel roads for what seemed to be forever, we arrived at this magical place right on the water.

The view from the lodge.  You can see the little wooden cabin on the water is the sauna!

Finally we could get some washing done

We liked their clothes line, very innovative!

Marc hard at work editing the millions of photos we took on the kayak expedition!

The awesome and relaxing lounge room at the lodge.  Marc fell asleep on the couch.
