Day 034 & 35 - Canmore, What a beautiful little town!

Day 034 – Alberta we love you!

As soon as we entered Alberta we felt the chill in the air… we looked at each other with our eyes wide open and cracked up laughing…. We have no idea what we are getting ourselves into, winter is going to be CRAZY!!!

This was never more true than today!  We decided to get up before sunrise to go take photos of Moraine Lake.  Our room mate didn’t believe us when we said we were going to get up before sunrise. We had said we would get up early the day before and slept in till 10 am (or what turned out to be 11 because we forgot about mountain time!!! in Alberta).

Anyway, we were determined, and this was going to be our last day in Lake Louise so we had to do it.
It was FREEZING!!!!  Between 0 and 3 degrees. Marc was wearing thongs (or flip flops as we call it here) as he had two massive blisters from our hike the day before.  We were so not prepared for this cold as it had been pretty warm during the previous days.  HELLO!  Even though its warm during the day, like 24 degrees, it gets to 0 to -3 degrees at night.

We needed gloves and layers, all of which we didn’t bring!!!  The lake was amazing though and there was something quite incredible about climbing those rocks and watching the sun rise over the mountains.

The POWER OF HDRI ( High Dynamic Range Image) Here is a sample of our work from the shoot, HDR images take a longtime to edit and process so we will post more soon.

We didn't hike this area because we needed 2 more people and Marc wasn't about to do anymore walking around in thongs, let along hiking. A pretty good excuse given the warnings.....

Been here an hour and the wind has picked up meaning there is now no reflection on the lake and the chill factor is about -10. Plus WE WERE FREEEEEEEZZZZZZING !!!! and we had to check out from our hostel and head off to Canmore.

Sammy ;-)

We arrived in Canmore and went to 'The Woods' to meet our good friend Claude for lunch and a little drink. I asked for "a beer please", the waitress replied "what type would you like?" and I said, "something on tap, um the 'Hoegaarden' sounds nice" The next thing I know a giant jug lands in front of me. Apparently that's the standard size it comes in on tap. ( that's a full size orange wedge on the side of the glass, the foam is about 1.5 to 2 inches thick )

After lunch Claude took us around the neighbourhood, we walked the streets around where she lives and here are some pics. Not a bad place to live, indeed......

Here are some of the house designs in the area...

The mountains are called "The Three Sisters", which is also the name of the area wer are staying in with Claude.

Sandrine and Claude walking ahead towards Bow River

The awesome walks locals go on around here

I like this door handle for some reason..

Claude cooked us a fresh home cooked meal which was a refreshing change from take out we've been having for the last month. As you can see it was very nice. (the home made salsa was wicked)

Mahi Mahi fish with home made salsa on top, mini purple and white potatoes, brocoli and purple carrots topped with a delicious caper sauce... YUM!!!

A big Thank You goes out to Claude for taking us in and showing us around.

Marc

Day 035 – Looking for a place to live is not fun

After travelling around Canada for over a month, we cannot explain the joy and comfort we both felt when we arrived to stay at Claude's house.  Its not just that she lives is a gorgous condo, decorated with pictures and statues of bears (which I LOVE!), finally sleeping in a comfy bed was amazing!

So needless to say that we slept in a tinny bit the next morning ;-).  We had an appointment to visit a place to possibly rent in Banff so we had to get up and drive over, but not before we had an awesome breakfast burrito prepared by Claude!  God we are spoilt!!

We ended up spending the rest of the day in Banff looking at a few places and scouting out some job possibilities.  We've been told that we are in town at a good time to beat the crowds so hopefully we'll get something soon.

Tomorrow Claude is showing us around the Kananaskis country side...
