Day 041 - Nice weather in Jasper

After a great meal and a night at the Hi Hostel in Jasper, we woke up happy to see the sun shining!
We had breakfast at the hostel and then took off to explore Jasper.  First stop was Maligne Lake, but not before stoping for some photos along the way.

This is Athabasca River, beautiful blue water (as it is everywhere in the Rockies...)

This is a funny little squirrel that was throwing pine cones from the tree onto the ground over and over.  Gathering food before the winter, was quite funny to watch.

We stopped by this lake called "Medicine Lake" on the way to Maligne Lake and Malign Canyon.

Once we actually got to Maligne lake, the sun had disappeared and it was FREAZING!!!  On came the extra layers... underlayer, down jacket and wind/rain proof jacket, with gloves and hats.

First view of Maligne Lake

Sun is peaking out from behind the clouds, stopping for some warming up...

As we stopped for a rest, this cute little "Whiskey Jack" flew down right next to me.  Marc got out the long lens and got some awesome shots...

On the road again, off to get some lunch in Jasper.

This is the lower part of medicine lake that is trickling down and emptying itself.  I was told that Medicine lake is usually empty in winter and fills up again when the snow melts and the water flow increases.

Love the colours of fall in Canada.  There's more and more yellow appearing every day..

Once in the town we took our Macro lens for a walk..

Marc finally found this Canadian Whiskey Ash has been telling him all about.  Is this the one Ash?

The view from the main road in Jasper.

This is Mt Edith Cavell, overlooking the town of Jasper.

This is Mt Tekerra

On the left is Mt Tekkera next to Mt Kerkeslin on the right

Last stop of the day was at "Athabaska Falls".  Pretty massive force in that water... CRAZY

But of course a cuttie little squirrel is what stole my attention.  I love him!  He just kept going down for a pine cone, bringing it back up to that branch and eating it right in front of us, over and over again.  So funny!

More shots of the falls:

There was like a whirle pool going on there

Check out the AWESOME photos we got on the way back to our little cabin, right before we picked up two hitch hickers on the side of the road that had been hiking in the mountains for 3 days.  They were kinda weird but a harmless couple from Alaska.  We did our good deed for the day!

These next two are my favourite, hope you enjoyed our trip to Jasper as much as we did!

Tomorrow we head back towards Banff, with much better weather than we had yesterday!  Speaking of weather... check out the new addition to our blog which shows you the current weather for Banff, Lake Louise and Canmore which is where we live!

Sammy ;-)
