Day 039 & 040 - Up close and personal with a bull Elk

Day 039 - Canmore.....

Since we have decided to live here, we thought we should have a stroll around. We signed our lease forms today for our apartment and I walked around whilst Sammy went to an interview with a respected Wildlife Photography Company... Finger crossed on that....

Here are some pics from me walking around Canmore

Grabbing a coffee at The Bagel Co.

Chilling outside.. looks like we're gonna get some fresh snow later...

Catching up with 'Spirit', This dog was rescured from an indigenous tribe of Saskatewan. AMAZING dog. Just the vibe you get from her, plus she's built like a Wolf...

Day 040 - Off to Jasper

Heading off to Jasper

Stopping for Lunch, Bison Burger. YEAH!

We dropped in to Lake Louise, needed some track guides and weather info. And we might as well stop in to check out those discounted snowboards we passed by last time.

Well the constant search for a snowboard and bindings for Sammy is over, Say hello to Sammy's new Board "Lipstick". It's better than mine.. :(        Biatch!   :)   Colourful enough?

This is the Jacket I want but can't justify just yet.

Driving on, we come across cars lined up like crazy on the high way, all blocked and people honking each other. Arrhh, it was a BEAR JAM. Sammy leaped out like a fricken bronco. Here are some of her shots....

She just wanted to cuddle him.  It took alot of restraint from her not to get too close.

Off he/she goes into the distant forest, apparently this is a very young fella and is probably his first winter on his own.

A pretty miserable day so we had to make the most of it.

Abit of rain, I think at this point it was around +3 degree (C).

And yes she is wearing thongs...

Abit of fresh snow on the mountain tops.

Ravens here are fricken smart, one of the most intuitive birds ever. Yesterday we were driving to Calgary to buy ski pants on sale (which we did) and there was about 20 to 30 Ravens sitting on a carcus of some sort having a smorgas board/party. The carcus was huge but I couldn't see through all the birds.  Crazy.

The Ice fields, it's hard to show scale but if there was a huge double decker bus on that ice field, it would hardly be a spec on the white ice field from here.

Sammy checking out the cliff edge over the canyon...

Claude freezing a little.

Sammy insisting she would see the edge better from the other side of the barrier. It's about 250 ft drop straight down..

HDRI Goodness !!!!

200 Km's down, 200 to go...

As we arrived in Jasper, we ran into these guys...

The Elk are mating at this time of year and the bulls have been said to be more protective & unpredictable than Grizzlies. They even can ram cars if you upset them too much.

Moking us Eh!

Here's a shot of The Big Daddy Bull...

I think if I was standing next to him I would come up to his nostrils...

Hmmmmm he's checking me out, Just keep taking shots....

He's started bellowing at us, Amazing sound. Sort of like a train trying to break in the wet combined with an obese smokers cough. I wish we filmed it... Here are some stills from some footage we did get.

As you can see there is alot of shots, but hey when is this ever gonna happen again. Gotta get the shots whilst your there right....

This is shot is the one I like the most...

So after the awesome Elk encounter we checked into our Hostel and headed off for dinner. Was crappy weather driving up but we still have to head back in a couple of days.  It is likely to be great weather then so we'll get better scenery shots on the way down....

Hope you enjoyed the pics.
